- Un esguince cervical puede diagnosticarse a través de sus síntomas.
- El médico puede prescribirle medicación.
- En general, realizar una resonancia magnética nuclear (RMN) no es útil puesto que no suele mostrar ningún daño. Sin embargo, puede mostrar cambios en el cuello relacionados con la edad.
- A veces los síntomas empiezan inmediatamente y en otras ocasiones, la rigidez y el dolor pueden tardar hasta 48 horas en aparecer. La mayoría de las personas que sufren un esguince cervical se recuperan en 1 mes y las personas más jóvenes se recuperan con más rapidez.
- Si ha sufrido un esguince cervical y necesita asegurarse de que todo va bien, acuda a su médico de cabecera o al hospital.

Los síntomas más frecuentes son:
- dolor de cuello, rigidez, dolor al mover la cabeza;
- limitación del movimiento de la cabeza y cuello;
- dolor, sensación de hormigueo por el brazo o la mano.
