Ostéoporose - Diagnostic

Toutes les fractures vertébrales affectant les personnes âgées ne sont pas dues à l’ostéoporose. L’ostéoporose doit donc être prouvée avant d’instaurer un traitement.

Des antécédents de fractures du rachis, du poignet ou de la hanche peuvent suggérer une ostéoporose. Le test le plus fiable pour l’ostéoporose est la DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry [Absorption biphotonique à rayons X]). Avec cet examen, non seulement il est possible de confirmer l’ostéoporose, mais il est également possible de déterminer le degré de l’ostéoporose.
