Hernie discale - Diagnostic

Généralement, une hernie discale provoque une irritation chimique et mécanique de la racine nerveuse adjacente. Dans le cas d’une hernie de la région lombaire, cela peut se manifester par une douleur irradiée à l’avant de la cuisse ou par une douleur au niveau des fesses et à l’arrière de la jambe descendant dans le pied (sciatique), selon le nerf affecté par la hernie discale.

Dans le cas d’une hernie du cou, la douleur irradie le long du bras.
Tout symptôme de perte du contrôle vésical ou intestinal est considéré comme sévère, et il faut consulter immédiatement dans ce cas.

Le médecin réalise alors un certain nombre d’examens pour déterminer si la douleur est provoquée par une hernie discale. À savoir:
  • IRM (imagerie par résonance magnétique);
  • EMG (électromyogramme);
  • Des études de conduction nerveuse peuvent parfois être réalisées.
