Tumores de la columna vertebral - Diagnóstico, síntomas y signos

Los síntomas de un tumor de la columna vertebral son, principalmente, dolor de espalda, que empeora por la noche en reposo. Algunos tumores de mayor tamaño pueden provocar síntomas de dolor neuropático agudo o creciente como dolor irradiado a los brazos o piernas o incluso parálisis completas repentinas. Si existe un tumor primario, el médico puede sospechar de la presencia de un tumor secundario en la columna vertebral y realizar una radiografía. Algunos tumores provocan la fractura de vértebras acompañada de un dolor de espalda intenso.

El diagnóstico se lleva a cabo principalmente a través de una resonancia magnética nuclear (RMN) de la columna. La RMN mostrará el estrechamiento exacto del conducto vertebral y cómo está afectando a la columna vertebral. Una radiografía simple o una tomografía axial computarizada (TAC) mostrarán la estructura ósea con detalles que pueden confirmar el diagnóstico y ayudar al médico a planificar el tratamiento. A veces, es necesario realizar una biopsia para el diagnóstico de los tumores de la columna vertebral.
