Posibles causas de dolor de cuello

Estenosis cervical

En el cuello hay 7 huesos conocidos como vértebras cervicales con cojines (denominados discos intervertebrales) entre cada vértebra. Uno de los problemas que puede producirse en la columna cervical se denomina estenosis cervical o mielopatía cervical degenerativa (MCD). Una mielopatía indica que la médula espinal se encuentra comprimida. Esto puede producirse cuando el conducto vertebral se encuentra restringido debido a la degeneración de los discos intervertebrales y los huesos (estenosis), lo cual provoca que la médula se estreche.

Hernia discal

La columna vertebral está compuesta por huesos (vértebras), separados cada uno de ellos por un resistente cojín amortiguador de golpes llamado disco intervertebral. Las vértebras se dividen en 7 vértebras cervicales (cuello), 12 vértebras torácicas (pecho), 5 vértebras lumbares (parte baja de la espalda), 5 vértebras sacras y el cóccix. Las hernias discales pueden producirse a nivel cervical, torácico o lumbar; las zonas lumbares y cervicales son las más afectadas.
