Hernia discal - Diagnóstico

En general, una hernia discal provoca una irritación química y mecánica de la raíz nerviosa más cercana. Esta irritación puede manifestarse, en el caso de hernia lumbar, en un dolor irradiado en la parte anterior del muslo o en las nalgas y en la parte posterior de la pierna hasta el pie (ciática), según el nervio afectado por la hernia discal.

En caso de hernia cervical, el dolor se irradia al brazo.
Los síntomas de pérdida de control vesical o intestinal se consideran graves y debe solicitarse atención médica inmediata.

El médico llevará a cabo varias pruebas para determinar si el dolor es provocado por una hernia discal:
  • RMN (resonancia magnética nuclear);
  • EMG (electromiografía);
  • es posible que lleve a cabo estudios de conducción nerviosa.
