Espondilólisis - Diagnóstico

En jóvenes, es importante evitar la exposición a la radiación por rayos X siempre que sea posible. El método diagnóstico de elección actual es la resonancia magnética nuclear (RMN).

Entre el 3% y el 6% de la población padece esta afección. Muchas veces, se diagnostica por casualidad y la mayoría de las veces no produce dolor de espalda.

En ocasiones, puede ser necesario realizar radiografías especializadas para confirmar el diagnóstico. Un especialista puede solicitar una TAC para evaluar el proceso de curación o ver si es necesario un tratamiento quirúrgico. Para ello, pueden ser útiles las exploraciones especializadas como las tomografías de emisión monofotónica (single-photon emission computed tomography, SPECT).

Muy pocos pacientes precisan una operación, ya que la fractura por sobrecarga suele curarse por sí misma.
