Disc Herniation - Diagnosis

Typically, a disc herniation provokes a chemical and mechanical irritation of the nearby nerve root. This can cause pain spreading to the front of the thigh, or pain in the buttock and in the back of the leg down to the foot (sciatica), depending on the level affected by disc herniation.

In a case of a slipped disc in the neck, the pain will spread along the arm.
Any worsening symptoms of loss of bowel or bladder control, is considered severe and medical attention must be sought immediately.
