Quem pode ter e porquê?
A degeneração discal resulta do processo de envelhecimento natural dos discos entre os ossos da coluna. Na vasta maioria dos casos, a dor ciática é provocada por um disco herniado ou uma hérnia de disco, que pode aplicar pressão no nervo ciático. Para além disso, o material do disco contém um químico ácido irritante que pode provocar a inflamação do nervo.As causas menos comuns incluem a estenose vertebral, que é o estreitamento das vias nervosas da coluna, uma lesão ou infeção vertebral.
O seu médico irá rever o seu historial médico, exames neurológicos e físicos e, se fornecidos, exames de raios X, TC e/ou IRM. Por vezes, pode ser-lhe fornecido um diagrama de dor para ilustrar a distribuição de dor e sensação.
